#19 Listen to your mama

Because I said so.

If you live under my roof, you abide by my rules.

Try convincing a child to do as you say without needing to end it with the most dumbfounded reasoning ever of "Because I said so. "

The battle: Why must I clean my room?
1. It will help you find your stuff quicker.
2. So when you are old enough and have your own home, people don't think I raised a slob.
3. So little, crawly creatures don't come visiting you at night.
4. Because your room is in my house.
5. Because this isn't a hotel with room service.

If none of the above work:
Because I said so!

The battle: Why can't I stay out late with friend A?
1. Because I don't know who your friend is.
2. It isn't that I don't trust you, I don't trust everything else around you.
3. Because you should be studying.

If none of the above work:
Because I said so!

Honor your father and mother. -Ten Commandments

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. -Ephesians 6:1

Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. -Colossians 3:20

We never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves. -Henry Ward Beecher

The first half of our lives is ruined by our parents and the second half by our children. -Clarence Day

Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. -Socrates

Parents who are afraid to put their foot down usually have children who step on their toes. -Chinese Proverb

Let parents bequeath to their children not riches, but the spirit of reverence. -Plato

Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands. -Anne Frank

Great post! I should remember those :). My son is still young, but sometimes I do try to reason with him. It's never too early, I guess!

I love quotes and words of advice.

Very nice post.

Truly "because I said so" was my mums favourite while I was growing up and it worked magic on me. I bet she must have had a good laugh a number of times.
